Return a Kindle eBook

Kindle books can be returned through the Manage your Kindle page on the Amazon.com website. To return a borrowed eBook:

1. Navigate to www.amazon.com
2. Log-in to your account
3. Select either Your Digital Items or Your Account from the top right
4. Find and select Manage Your Kindle
5. Mouse-over the Actions… button to the right of the book you would like to return
6. click on Return

Fill an unfillable PDF

When you need to type on a PDF that is not a form, there used to be several websites available (PDFfiller.com, FillAnyPDF.com, etc). Presently, most of them have changed to a fee based service. I reviewed a few more and found one that is still free. Also, the user does not have to create and account.
The site is:

Just click on Start Now in the top left corner, then choose Start Using Unregistered.

If this site fails to work, or switches to a fee based service, use Google to search: related:pdfescape.com
This will show a list of similar sites. As always, you will have to review them first.

Does the library have eBooks for Kindle?

YES! As of today (9/23/2011 @9:30 a.m.) A link to the Kindle version of an Overdrive eBook title is displayed in http://martin.lib.overdrive.com/

Check Out a Public Library Book for Kindle

You can borrow Kindle books from your local library’s website, and, with the click of a button, have them delivered to your Kindle device or free reading app.

Instructions:

Visit the website of a U.S. library that offers digital services from OverDrive.
Check out a Kindle book (library card required).
Click on “Get for Kindle.” You will then be directed to Amazon.com to redeem your public library loan. You may be required to login to your Amazon.com account — or create a new account — if you’re not already logged in.
Choose to read the book on your Kindle device, free reading app, or Kindle Cloud Reader.

Note: Public library books require an active Wi-Fi connection for wireless delivery to a Kindle device. Library books will not be delivered via your Kindle’s 3G connection. If trying to send to a Kindle device and do not have an active Wi-Fi connection, you may instead choose to load your library book via USB. Error getting license/License server communication problem

I got the error message ‘Error getting license/License server communication problem: E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER’. What should I do?

In order to download a single Adobe eBook on multiple computers, Adobe Digital Editions must be activated using the same Adobe ID on each computer.

To activate Adobe Digital Editions using an Adobe ID…

Open Adobe Digital Editions.
Select Library > Authorize Computer….
The ‘Authorize Computer’ dialog box is displayed.
Enter the email address and password for your Adobe ID.
Click ‘Activate’.
Click ‘Finish’ to close the ‘Setup Assistant’ dialog box.
Adobe Digital Editions is activated using an Adobe ID. Repeat this process on each computer on which you intend to download Adobe eBooks.

Note that if you activate Adobe Digital Editions with an Adobe ID which has already been used to activate Adobe Digital Editions on another computer, any DRM-protected Adobe eBooks downloaded before activating with the Adobe ID will no longer work.

If the subsequent download of an Adobe eBook is attempted on a computer that has been activated using a different Adobe ID, DRM-restrictions will make the title incompatible with the second computer.

How do I activate a supported eBook device using an Adobe ID?

To activate an eBook device using an Adobe ID…

Connect the eBook device to your computer.
Open Adobe Digital Editions.
Adobe Digital Editions launches and detects the eBook device. The ‘Device Setup Assistant’ dialog box is displayed.
Click ‘Authorize Device’.
Adobe Digital Editions activates the eBook device. You can now transfer DRM-protected Adobe eBooks to the device.

Note that both Adobe Digital Editions and the eBook device must be activated with the same Adobe ID to transfer DRM-protected Adobe eBooks to the device.

How many titles can I have in my Cart at the same time?

The Overdrive system allows you to put up to 7 titles in your Cart at the same time. If you have decided against checking out a particular title, you can click the ‘remove’ link to pull it from your Cart. Please note that the system will automatically remove a title from your Cart 60 minutes after you have placed it there, making it available to other patrons at your library. (Overdrive)

Overdrive file formats and compatibility

There are many file formats available from the Overdrive database of downloadable eBooks and Audiobooks.

eBook Formats:

PDF - Portable Document Format (PDF) is a file format created by Adobe Systems. This format is good for titles with illustrations. It does not allow word wrapping; so, zooming into the text may be difficult.

EPUB - Electronic Publication format is a free and open e-book standard by the International Digital Publishing Forum. This format allows for word wrapping; therefore, it is best for all text titles.

Audiobook Formats:

MP3 - A compressed audio file that offers cross platform compatibility (PC and MAC)

WMA - Windows Media Audio format is also compressed. Items in this format can only be downloaded on a PC. Most, however, can be transferred to an Apple device.

Downloadable Audiobook Loan Periods

The loan period for an Audiobook, downloaded from the Overdrive database varies. During the Checkout procedure, you may select either a 7 day or 14 day loan period.

Note: Unlike eBooks, downloadable Audiobooks cannot be returned early. You will have to wait until the item expires.
